Measuring a diode, cooling down

General information

This is the preferred way for the final measurement.

Hardware setup

The hardware setup is the same as in the previous measurement, but here a sensor current is also required during the cooling time. A coaxial cable has to be connected to the device (shield to + side, core to - side). The other end of the cable can be connected to any of the outputs of the Sensor currents units.

Software setup

The sign of the programmed sensor current values must be negative.

The steps of the measurement are the same as given in Table 6-2, obviously at higher actual current levels.

Note: the diode has to be calibrated at the same sense current as used during the cooling down measurement, with no powering. (Select DC in the Single Voltage Measurement window and set Powering wait/run mode to ).

The power is calculated from the current and the forward voltage in the last moment before starting the measurement, i.e. the last instant before switching off.
