T3Ster - Power booster
|
T3Ster-Booster (or power booster for T3Ster®)
is an equipment to raise the switched power driving capability of T3Ster® to up to 1000
W. The booster device provides two modes of operation: R-switch measurement (needs an external DC power supply with
a driving capability of up to 50V @ 20A) and current step (diode
measurement) mode (with an external DC power supply with 5v @ 21A).
The two modes of operation are realized by the two separate sides
of the booster unit, each having its own connectors.
In any mode of operation the power booster enhances the driving
or switching capability of the Main System Unit by a factor of
ten. The figure of merit value (defined as max. switched power / temperature resolution)
is approximately 100 000 W/°C with the booster.
The T3Ster-Booster is a device external to T3Ster®.
It does not contain any mains power supply, the right supply with
correct wattage should be provided by the user. On request MicReD
can ship any third party power supply unit properly matched to the
power level needed. |

Booster
setup in current step (diode) measurement mode |
|
| Main modes of operation |
| Current step (diode) measurement mode: |
In this mode (see the schematic diagram above)
both the dissipating element and the temperature sensor are
the same large pn junction. A typical application is measuring
general purpose ICs where only the substrate diode can be used
for thermal transient recording. The maximum switched current
is 20 A, the switched power is typically 20-26 W in this case.
This measurement is supported by the Current booster
side of the booster unit. |
|
| Measurement with resistor dissipator: |
In this mode (see figure
in the on-line manual) the dissipator element is a large-sized
resistor. Either pn junctions or temperature-sensitive resistors
can be used as temperature sensors. A typical application is
measuring dedicated thermal test chips. The switched power can
be as large as 1000 W (maximum 50 V, maximum 20 A. This mode
of operation is supported by the R-driver booster side
of the booster unit. |
| |
| Auxiliary mode: |
This mode allows measurement of npn bipolar transistors. Up
to UCB = 50 V and IE = 20 A
can be applied, the maximum switched power is 1000 W. This measuring
arrangement can be built by using the Current booster
side of the booster unit. |
